DESCRIPTION
The city of Ottawa is the capital of Canada and the fourth largest city in the country. It is located in the extreme southeast of the province of Ontario, along the Ottawa River, which forms the border between the provinces of Ontario and Quebec. It is located approximately 400 kilometres east of Toronto and 200 kilometres west of Montreal.
Description
According to the census of 2005, the city has an estimated population of approximately 859,704 habitants, while adding the population of the suburbs, the figure rises to 1,148,785 people. Geography

The City of Ottawa includes several urban areas. The main extends a considerable distance to the east, west and south of downtown, and includes the ancient cities of Gloucester, Nepean and Vanier, the former village of Rockcliffe Park and the suburban communities of Orleans and Manotick. Besides the main urban area, there is a secondary: the urban area of Kanata, which includes the urbanized part of the ancient city of Kanata and the ancient village of Stittsville (70,320 habitants.). Ottawa has more than 3,230 hectares of parks and playgrounds, making it the second largest city with more green areas per capita of Canada, after Edmonton.
Sports
Ottawa has a team of ice hockey played in the NHL, the Ottawa Senators. He also had a team in the CFL, the Ottawa Renegade (created in 2002 and disbanded in 2006). The Senators play at Scotiabank Place, while the Renegade playing in the Frank Clair Stadium.
Ottawa also has a baseball team in a league side, the Ottawa Lynx of the International League, sponsored by the Baltimore Orioles. The two major universities in the city, Carleton University and the University of Ottawa, also own athletic associations, Carleton Ravens and the Ottawa Gee Gees, respectively. The main soccer team Ottawa is the Ottawa Fury, which plays in the W-league, the leading female football league in Canada and the United States, and in the USL Premier League Develpoment, an amateur soccer league. Horse racing was held at Rideau Carleton Raceway, and car events in the Capital City Speedway. Ottawa also has a team of professional women's ice hockey, the Ottawa Raiders. Ottawa will host the World Cup of Ice Hockey Youth in 2009.
The city hosts numerous sporting activities, like skating on the Rideau Canal and curling in winter, and cycling and jogging along the river Ottawa, the Rideau Canal and the Rideau River in summer, ultimate all year, skiing and hikes in the Greenbelt and in the nearby Gatineau Park, water sports at the Lac Deschenes, and golf at several golf courses in the city. During the coldest months of winter, there is ice fishing on the river in Ottawa. Ottawa has several cricket clubs.

The Winterlude, held in February in the Rideau Canal, is a carnival of invierno.El Tulip Festival is an international event, in which the city receives each spring, hundreds of thousands of tulips, as a gift from the Dutch Royal Family. Thousands of people from all parts of the country go to Ottawa to celebrate this anniversary.

Ottawa has an extensive service passenger trains and cargo, and has a limited railway grid within their municipal boundaries. The Ottawa International Airport is the nerve centre of the country's major airlines, which connect the city with other major cities in Canada, as well as some U.S. cities.

The main roads of the city are Highway 417 (also part of the Trans-Canada Highway), Highway 416, and Quebec Autoroute 5, which connects Ottawa to Gatineau.
The public transport system is fully integrated, providing an efficient network of bus lines and a light rail system. Many public roads are designed exclusively to traffic of buses, bicycles and / or pedestrians.
