History

Edmonton was founded in 1795, when it established a post of the Company of Hudson Bay, while also built Fort Edmonton. The bridge linking both sides was completed in 1913. In the decade of the 1930s, Edmonton continued to play a role as a business center, and point to send food and medicine by air. In 1942, the construction of the Alaska Highway to transform the city into a point of paramount importance for the transportation of people and supplies to the north, being named the "gateway to the north."
