Calgary is the largest city in the province of Alberta, Canada. It is located in a region of hills and highlands, about 80 km east of the Rocky Mountains. Description

The city of Calgary is a well-known destination for winter sports and ecotourism: near the city are located a large amount of important places on vacation. The economy of Calgary is focused mainly in the oil industry, although agriculture, tourism and high technology also contributed to rapid economic development of the city. Calgary is the host of several annual festivals, as the Calgary Stampede, the Folk Music Festival, the Lilac Festival, GlobalFest and the second festival of Caribbean culture importance in the country, Carifesta. In 1988, Calgary became the first Canadian city to host the Winter Olympic Games.

Geography

The city centre is comprised of five boroughs: Eau Claire (including the District Festival), the neighborhood west, the core business, Chinatown, and the people of this (which also forms part of Rivers District). But away from these and normally separated from one another by roads, are suburban communities, often characterized as "bedroom suburbs". Climate

Calgary has a continental climate with long winters and short summers but variable and warm. The climate is heavily influenced by the elevation of the city and the proximity of the Rocky Mountains. Culture

The cultural landscape of Calgary has changed considerably over time. Today it has become a more cosmopolitan city, despite its tradition of taverns, ice hockey and country music.
